In simple terms, it is computer software that backs up your data and uploads the archive to a private server on the internet. It's not the computer program, and it's not the the upload to the internet. It is both. That is why we offer it as a package deal, with a single charge that depends on how much storage space you use, and nothing else. Visit the ABS Data Store web site for pricing and more information.
There are several facets to the process. The first thing it does is perform routine maintenance to the database known as compacting (or repair & compact). This helps assure that your archive is a backup of solid, uncorrupt data. More importantly, it virtually guarantees that should it be necessary to restore the archive, the data will be exactly as it was when the backup was made.
After the maintenance process, the database is zipped into an archive file using the latest strong encryption. If you choose to backup the ABS Document Manager, all those documents will be included in the encrypted archive. Creating a zipped archive keeps the physical size as small as possible, which is important for the rest of the process. The shrunken file is then saved on your hard drive.
When the archive is successfully saved, it is then uploaded to your own private space on our web server. Your space is password protected so that only you have access to your archives.
Yes. It was specifically designed to begin working as soon as launched. That allows it to be run manually, or to be run by the Microsoft Task Scheduler, which is included in virtually every current version of Windows and is located in the "Control Panel." Detailed instructions are printed in the instruction manual for this product. The bottom line is that you can have totally automatic backups of your data that runs completely unattended.
Each off site backup customer is provided with a private storage space on our web server. They are given a unique user name and password that gives them, and only them, access to that storage space. The backup customer enters the user name and password into the off site backup configuration program, and from then on, the backup program can upload archives to the private storage space. Because the backup program encrypts the user name and password, even if your computer is stolen, it will be virtually impossible for the bad guys to access your data.
